First animated waves into Reloaded. Royally pleased with myself at cracking this one

Wave in and wave out in a single model. 100 poly's.

Thanks for comments guy's

Once I get it a little finer tuned you can expect waterfalls etc, the one below needs more work on the texture but definitely going in the right direction.

All this stuff will eventually make into the store, I am just a bit busy with other things right now

There he goes, pushing the boundaries! Good job Rolfy!

Its artists like you that keep everyone like me motivated to learn more.

My little brain is trying so hard to figure out how this is done.

Give me a clue, is it to do with animations (vertex/bone) or have you somehow mastered shaders?

Cheers

Jay.

It's a scrolling texture shader, the trick is in the model where it is twisted 180 degrees and folded back on itself so you get a curved wave in and a flat wash out. The scroll only goes in one direction

The right texture helps a lot as well.

did you make this in blender? If so how did you get the water material into FPSCR? I ask because i want to know how to use opaque and transparent materials in FPSCR.

You can't port materials directly from any 3d modeling program. Transparency is in the Alpha channel of the diffuse texture.

how do you access the alpha channel?

What do you do if you want varying degrees of opacity?

I believe you could use Gimp (a free editor) semi-transparency is dependent on varying degrees of grey, with black fully transparent and white fully opaque.

What if you want the material to be black or grey coloured in the texture but you dont necessarilly want it to be transparent? That is why this alpha channel system doesnt make any sense to me.

Diffuse texture colours are unaffected since the alpha is a different channel.

There is a wealth of information, try searching for 'how to make alpha transparency', brings up a bunch of web tutorials

I thought the diffuse map is the image where the 'normal colours' are displayed?

Now i am even more confused....

Very nice indeed. Just what we need for added sparkle to scenes! I'm curious how you managed a scrolling texture in a Reloaded model. Easy in DB etc but I've no clue here :0 Pictures look nice but where is the video?!

I will eventually do a vid, just not possible right now.

I am waiting for next beta, I use the old laptop to do this stuff and never did put Reloaded on the workhorse. Even pressing F10 to screen capture freezes the scroll, also seems to have a slight jitter to it which may be a timer issue of some sort, things to look at before I would do a video.

Some of this may be conflicts with the shader, the engine or both, won't be able to go much further till after next beta.Where these things can suddenly be working...or not

Although it's not perfect yet it still looks far better in game than screenshots, such as I noticed that these textures cast shadows with alpha as they scroll. Gets you thinking...

Back into this, a couple of vids showing waves and waterfalls in the engine.

All still pretty much work in progress. The water texture for water falls needs a lot of further tweaking in the alpha and diffuse but getting there.

I have been having a hard time with transparency culling issues in V1.006 so this video is captured in V1.0045. Not done much with Reloaded water yet and a nice rotating foam effect on the water surface would tie it together.

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...
