Nice screenshot's whatever sort of level your making I'm sure it will be good.

@ Everyone - I'm willing to bet (not very much though) that wizard of id's secret task is to make a multiplayer map for the steam launch! It would make sense... a multiplayer map would really pull people in. It also explains why the FPSC:R latest beta has a multiplayer spawn marker...

Lol I love the speculation but NOPE, the level is for some thing else..... entirely unrelated to steam and MP.

Lol nearly done with the interior of the "special" project there was a hint in this weeks newsletter what it looks like so far.Started adding animated doors and goodies.Soon I will be back on store duty There was also some screenshots of the escape in lee's blog, so that will need to tie you over till the project is teased some more.

Then we will have to wait and see, the engine isn't mature enough for the dungeon pack as yet, so that will take a back seat till I feel the engine is ready for it.So will be outdoor projects till such time. There is a very, very good chance for a multiplayer asset pack and level, but we will have to wait and see, still tuned into the "special" project....

When I saw that screenshot in the newsletter I thought the models looked like your handiwork

I agree with you, I've stopped on my underground pack for that very same reason, I can't get the look and feel that I'm after until indoor levels are more supported.

In the process of looking at the next project for consideration, I have put the dungeon pack on hold till such time indoor environments improve that includes the prison pack, have some decent ideas there, such the engine doesn't like indoor just yet.

So this would be a good idea to pitch an outdoor theme, and content you would like to see. You have about a week to decide, keep in mind would like to apply some thing different to the theme and content.

The borderlands themed pack is still on the list, and fits well with the abstract art I have in mind, so if you would like to see that vote for it would include animated objects like bridges for a change.

Just messing about today Also decided on the next pack. Unfortunately borderlands is taking a back seat, had to choose between that, shanty town and the ruined temple. Decided on the the ruined temple for various reason, some thing unique and not some thing seen in reloaded.

I will also attempt a multi texture approach instead of the usual texture atlas.

I found an issue with multi texture if you add efx shader it doesn't work. As you have to leave the texture line empty it I am sure will be corrected

So did a quick model test, scale, design ect.Pretty neat. Going to attempt the tree growth on the building see if I can get that figured out, the most complex part of the modeling.Def need a lot more detail this is rather just a test attempt.

Sneak peak, I removed the textures, didn't want spoil the surprise, as you can see, it's pretty complex, multiple levels, entries points, levels ect, lots of different buildings stairs, and this is only the half way mark....still lots more to come, however this is the last screenshot for a while.

Sneak peak, the first and last screen, as this isn't the final representation of the content, lots of tweaking and additional content needed. I feel there is much more that can be done to improve the overall look and feel .....so onwards we go, to the dark damp modeling dungeon, for the next few weeks.

Thanks sir. I don't know how you feel about it, but I have a problem I spend so much time on a pack making by the end of it, I dislike it. However I like the new pack, as it's a lot more ambitious than any thing else I have done before, I am taking my sweet time on getting it done, and want it 100% right as well.

I managed to run into some brick walls and had a couple, dohuh moments. Some entities contain as much 52 groups with in an entity, and making use of multi texture approach, which resulted in lithunwrap running out of memory, because of the textures sizes, I have to pass the model through lithunwrap to assign each texture, otherwise it will end up black in GG.To solve the problem, simply reduce the textures all to 128 x 128 res for assigning them, in GG they use normal textures, and reduced the memory footprint by 90%. Was pretty upset that it took nearly 12 hours to figure it out.

I get the same way, sure. When that happens I'll sometimes step back for a week or so and start a new project. Then when I come back to it I've forgotten what I disliked so much and can motivate myself to finish what needs to be done to make it sellable. That said, I usually want to throw up if I see something that I made more than a year previous. So yea, I get ya.

At the end of the day, though... people are going to get a lot of enjoyment and use out of the media so it's worth it in the long run

Yes working on your own content it is nice to take a step back. However I spend the last 5 months working TGC projects, with deadlines attached, and often work 14 hours a day, to meet a deadline.I thrive on working with deadlines. It has actually improved my work flow and problem solving. As a result you can quickly get sample content in and tested.

Working on another cool project with a deadline, so I am pretty happy chappy. Only issue is you can't half way through the project change the design or layout, and I was nearly forced to do so, with the memory footprint.

The end result, some 2 weeks non-stop work.Ground work is done, now it's just the attention to detail and extra content, and minor changes here and there

Been relative busy, converting models to an atlas texture due to the light mapper not liking the models, will be fixed in the future.Decided I might as well make some welcome changes for the buildings to stand out more. The result of that, pretty happy, this whole model is a measly 4500K polygons.
All of the buildings will be getting this extra love and care.

Thanks for the feedback so far. !!

However it's with sad news that I announce my departure from Gameguru and all things related to it, it has become and uphill battle to get gameguru to work and need to keep my hands busy with some else.Unlikely I will be back even if gameguru improves, there is really nothing left for me here and it's time to move on to some thing else.

I do however want to leave you with a final screenshot of content completed yesterday.I kindly request that you not comment on the image, so that every gets a chance to see and read this post.

Very nice work. Did you intend for the domes to look flat shaded?
I think they would look better smooth shaded, you could change the
smoothing groups instead of adding more polygons.

The coffee is lovely dark and deep, and I have code to write before I sleep.

Left it as is it has, smoothing groups, but I don't think they are exporting as should., visually it doesn't impair much.

Some more progress with background detail added to the sample map as well as adding additional access points. It is a pretty complex map for MP, so will need to to add some static doors to block off some building intentionally to restrict access a bit, to better suite the 8 player MP limit, ideally this is a 24 player map with 12 on a team.So that is some thing to consider as well going into creating and expanding the map more.

@science boy
Nope that is not my day job, My day job is actually content creation spend a good 8 to 10 hours a day working on content.Working on extremely large scenes is pretty easy, but takes a decent amount of practice as well as some good research and ideas to work off.

Added a bucket load of new content, from early feedback, balance is fine, but the long straight is a bit troubling, So addressed that issues as well as a bunch of smaller tweaks.

The other thing that was pointed the overall texture theme and colour needs some thing additional to to mix things up a bit, and create a better overall mixture, without a direct clash.

In other words it's a bit dead. whatever that means Overall it's been a very productive day :p

Looking forward tomorrow Might do a Video as well

Thanks uncle wolf :p

Yeah good news is TGC is happy with the pack, however they would like some more content added, so have some more static entities I will be adding, will be looking at more signage. Some barriers, and some other goodies that can be strewed around in your levels.

@wolf don't worry about the lack of comments, I take it as a good sign, I think people might want a video to see what is going on, unfortunately they will have to wait some more, this is still very much a WIP as I add the extra content if this doesn't end up jaw dropping when I am done with it, I am not doing a good job. :p

Really want a full and epic MP experience !!!!!
