Yeah I have the problem with this.

I think its a timing issue because I've had this problem in the source myself, the computer running faster than Relaoded so reloaded has to catchup.

Might not be the issue but that my view on it.

I get it also. Normally more so at the very start, but it also happens when running around afterwards every so often. As Tattiebojangle said, the audio seems well out of sync to the running in places. Here is an old video of version 4.5 showing it happening, along with other bugs at the time.

Even when running at 60fps it still stuttered as you ran around. I've also noticed you can get a water splash effect when walking on some terrain, where no water is near.

Hi Guys,

Word has it is that we've fixed this today. Seems the Physics was being asked to do too much and stalling. So expect this sorted for V1.006!

if its fixed now that's great looking forwards to all the improvements made for beta 6

It was just a single value that was asking the physics engine to do too much, too often. Lee never really experienced it until our trip to GDC so that's when it became a big focus for us.

Onwards!

Just an update. It seems the stutter is fixed for most people but some are still having some issues. We continue to work on this and find a solid solution.

Don't know if this has any connection to comments regarding what is perceived as a stutter problem... In the setup.ini file there is a variable named smoothcamerakeys which defaults to "0" if I change it to "1" the stutter while walking around goes away. There is also an improvement in the walking sound being in generated. On my system setting this variable to "1" not only gets rid of the stutter but now gives me the sound of two footsteps (I think) and no longer sounds like I am walking with wet tennis shoes.

Some one might what to try changing this variable back and forth and confirm.

Don't want to beat a dead horse but ... WASD vs Arrow keys.

WASD keys = stutter

Arrow keys = NO stutter.

Change variable smoothcamerakeys to 1 = no stutter using WASD keys.

Latest update is that we have fixed two stutter causing issues. We suspect a third but only one pre-alpha tester has reported it, and the report is unconfirmed. Watch this space for the BETA release which will probably solve 66% of your stutter issues

I think I may have experienced the third suspected stutter today - it was in the to the river level when frMerte went above about 65fps I think - it may be a non-issue however, so I'll do more testing and get back. I've been very impressed so far, veg packs etc., no major issues, I've been running with all settings on max and with a few thousand entires still getting 25fps. Very nice, keep up the good work

You will get 'minor stutter' if you are running your monitor at 60 hertz and your frame rate is not exactly 60 hertz. You can use VSYNC=1 in SETUP.INI to solve this but by default the editor sets vsync off by community request.
