Ok made this tutorial to explain a little more on how to get SketchUp models into GameGuru.
I will do this without the use of the importer so you will know exactly how to do this manually

The first thing you will need is Erwan's xExporter.rb which you can get from here

http://sketchuptips.blogspot.co.uk/2008/02/sketchup-to-directx-exporter.html

This also assumes you know roughly how to use SketchUp.. and we are using only "one" Texture

Create a folder and call it "BLOCK"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok open sketchup and create a cube and texture it ...

Next thing to do is export it using the plugin as shown below....
Export the model to your "BLOCK" Folder

If you look in your "BLOCK" folder you should see your model and Texture...

Rename the texture to " BLOCK.jpg "

Open the .X model in notepad and change the texture name to " BLOCK.jpg " as shown below.

The next thing we have to do is create a Fpe File to add the the folder...
Here is the one I made for this model ...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Add the Fpe file to your "BLOCK" folder so it now contains 3 items as shown below...
Your model , Your Texture and your Fpe file

Next we will copy the whole folder into GameGuru's entitybank folder located
C : / program files / Steam / steamapps /common / GameGuru / Files / Entitybank..

Once you have done this ..... Start GameGuru... Click add entity and you should find your folder "BLOCK"
Click on this to select and place your model.......

NOTE.... it will be text only as we have not added a thumbnail....

All going well it should look something like this .....

Ok its a very basic tutorial but I hope it helps ...

Hi SS slothman

Just leave the Texture = blank as I have done in the fpe code snippet above

I just started using sketch up today and I'm amazed how simple it is to use. Blender blew my mind but sketchup is simple and effective. Where is the plugin folder I put Erwan's xExporter.rb into? It's not immediately obvious. Cheers

Hi Duncan ..
what version of Sketchup are you using ?

BTW.... you can blag a kind of UV map if you place all your textures on one 2048 x 2048 texture ....
Then manipulate it like the video below shows ...... After that you can use Mind Tex or similar to normal map the texture ...

Don't worry I figured it out.

The only issue I'm having now I've designed my first building in sketchup is getting Game Guru to recognize the collision for the building correctly. I can't walk though the door or up the stairs I made, it seems to treat it as one giant box which is a shame.

Playing with this at the moment synchromesh and it is working well if I only use one texture however if I build a house with two textures (brick wall and wood floor) I still only get the Brick, no wooden floor.

Any tips?

if you use multiple texture, in fpe file line "texture" must be empty. "texture = "

Ok so I made a video to show you what I was doing so you may be able to see where I was going wrong however in the process I worked out what to do. I have published the video to show others what I did to solve my problem with multiple textures.

I will do some video tutorials on Sketchup soon. As usual I have spent way too much time on GG over the past few days, I was planning on doing some work the past few days however found myself playing with this instead. (Don't tell the wife as I have been telling her to stay out of my office as I am working, lol).

To add a thumbnail image you need to add a BMP file. Just create a BMP file 64x64 pixels and save it as the same name as the object. So in the video I should have created a BMP image called BLOCK6.BMP. Just use paintshop or Photoshop to create the BMP file. I just created a print screen of the house I drew, scaled it down to 64x64 and saved it.

Nice one synchromesh. I use Sketchup a lot for my modelling but usually texture in 3rd party programs. Mainly I use 3dCrafter to texture because it is so easy to paint on the texture and once you have figured the sheet layout tiling etc is simple.

I must admit multi-textures in GameGuru sometimes work for me and strangely sometimes do not. So where possible I use as good a quality single textures as I can produce.
